Collecting Photography

Like many photography lovers, I dream of one day having my own print collection. A Winogrand or 2 here, a Frank over there, an Eggleston in that room, a Terry Richardson in the toilet. One photograph that I would also love to have in my collection is Peter Fraser‘s Paper Aeroplane (above). Fraser’s photographs have been on my mind this past year. They are a marvel of understatement but with a hint of something threatening and peculiar going on under the surface. The special edition of Fraser’s excellent monograph for Nazraeli Press, came with a copy of this print, but is now unfortunately sold out.
At more down to earth prices, Jen Bekman’s 20×200 project goes from strength to strength. With prices starting from $20, there is no excuse (even for me) not to have some real art on your wall. It might even prove to be an excellent investment, but at these prices it hardly matters. I’ve just heard that the gallery will now ship to the UK and Canada which is great news. The mid-size $200 editions look particularly good value, with this 17×22 print by Alison Grippo catching my eye (if anyone is feeling generous…).
